Community Action 179: Support an Inclusive Community Performance
The Idea: Attend, promote, sponsor, or assist a performance designed to welcome artists and audiences from varied backgrounds and abilities.
Why It Matters: Inclusive music, theater, dance, spoken-word, film, and cultural programs can expand creative opportunity, strengthen representation, and bring residents together through shared experiences.
Try It Today: Find a public performance featuring diverse artists, accessible presentation, multilingual content, or performers with disabilities.
Make It Work for You: Review ticketing, accessibility, age guidance, cultural context, photography rules, and audience expectations. Credit artists accurately and compensate creative work appropriately when commissioning or organizing a program. Do not advertise a performance as inclusive without examining whether the venue, participation process, communications, and audience experience support that claim.
Take It Further: Sponsor accessibility services, purchase group tickets through an approved program, hire local performers, or help organizers reach audiences that may otherwise be excluded.
Community Connection: Performing arts, accessibility, cultural representation, and shared community experiences
