Community Action 302: Thank Emergency Dispatchers
The Idea: Express appropriate appreciation to the emergency dispatchers and call takers who help connect people with police, fire, emergency medical, and other urgent services.
Why It Matters: Dispatch professionals often work under significant pressure while gathering critical information, coordinating resources, supporting responders, and giving callers important instructions.
Try It Today: Send a brief thank-you message to the public-safety communications center serving your community through its official administrative channel.
Make It Work for You: Ask the agency about recognition, privacy, security, food, gift, and delivery policies. Do not call 911 to offer thanks, visit a secure facility without permission, request confidential recordings, identify people involved in emergencies, or interfere with active operations. Keep appreciation inclusive unless the agency has formally identified a particular dispatcher for public recognition.
Take It Further: Submit an official commendation after a positive experience, recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, or support an approved employee-wellness or public-education initiative.
Community Connection: Emergency communications, dispatcher appreciation, public safety, and responsible recognition
